Japan is a country steeped in tradition and overflowing with historic sites to visit.    Every city has temples, shrines, memorials, parks or museums. Go to Kyoto to see the Golden Pavilion or Nara to view the Daibutsu and the deer park.  Visit Hiroshima to visit the memorial for the victims of the first atomic bomb. 

In addition, you can experience many modern pop culture trends.  Visit Tokyo to see Akihabara or Harajuku and experience the youth culture.  Try Ginza, still in Tokyo)for a New York City type shopping experience.  Travel to Shibuya to cross the world's business intersection.  

Or, travel to Hakone to soak in a hot spring and view Mt. Fuji from a cable car or ferry.
